Is Social Security a Ponzi Scheme?

Insights into the Declaration of Independence

So far as historians have preserved the records, it began with Barry Goldwater's 1964 presidential campaign against Lyndon Johnson. During that campaign, several Democrats started to liberally toss around words like fascist, Nazi, and Hitler, insisting that Goldwater’s campaign, and the Republican Party in general, were reflective of that evil regime. Below are some of the statements history has left in its wake.

The 1964 Barry Goldwater presidential campaign...

  • California Governor Pat Brown, in 1964, insisted that Barry Goldwater’s acceptance speech at the Republican Convention “…had the stench of Fascism.”

  • Dr. Martin Luther King stated that there were “…dangerous signs of Hitlerism in the Goldwater campaign.”

  • Jackie Robinson, a popular baseball player at the time, compared Republicanism to “Hitler’s Germany.”

  • John Shelley, mayor of San Francisco, accused the GOP of using “Mein Kampf as their political bible.”

The Richard Nixon years (1968-1974)...

  • In the 1968 presidential campaign, Democrat Hubert Humphrey claimed that Nixon winning the U.S. presidency would be equivalent to Hitler taking London.

  • A 1970 political poster reportedly depicted Hitler wearing a Nixon mask.

  • Throughout his presidency, Democrats often compared Nixon’s leadership to that of Hitler.

  • A Democrat member of the House of Representatives, William Clay, accused Reagan of “…trying to replace the Bill of Rights with fascist precepts lifted verbatim from Mein Kampf.”

  • A cartoon published in the New York Times depicted Reagan in Munich plotting a fascist takeover.

  • John Roth, an expert on the Holocaust, compared Reagan’s election to Nazi Germany, stating: “I could not help remembering how 40 years ago economic turmoil had conspired with Nazi nationalism and militarism—all intensified by Germany’s defeat in World War I—to send the world reeling into catastrophe. . . . It is not entirely mistaken to contemplate our postelection state with fear and trembling.”

Ronald Reagan’s campaign and presidency (1980-1989)...

George H.W. Bush’s presidency (1989-1993)...

  • During the presidency of George H. W. Bush, Democrats seemed to take a slight break from making comparisons between Republicans and Nazis. This is likely due to Bush’s rather liberal bent. Additionally, it would have been difficult to make the label stick given Bush’s valiant efforts fighting against the Nazis in WWII.

George W. Bush’s campaign and presidency (2000-2009)...

With the rise of the second George Bush (George W.), the Nazi comparisons returned and seemed to be even more vicious. Consider the following:

  • George Soros insisted that Bush’s presidency resembled the “…supremacist ideology of Nazi Germany.”

  • Al Gore charged the Bush administration with using “…digital brown shirts.”

  • During the 2004 campaign, the progressive political organization MoveOn created controversial ads comparing Bush and Hitler.

Mitt Romney’s campaign (2012)...

  • A Democrat delegate from Kansas unequivocally compared Romney to Hitler.

  • California Democrat Party Chair Joseph Goebbels called Paul Ryan (Romney’s VP candidate) a Nazi propagandist.

The Trump campaigns and presidencies (2015-Current)...

  • Comparisons to Hitler and fascists did not stop when Donald Trump came on the scene in 2015. If anything, the voices comparing Trump and Republicans to Hitler and fascists have reach a fever pitch. People who pay attention to U.S. politics will acknowledge that it is rare for a day to pass when Trump is not called a fascist or is not compared to the 1940’s dictator. Consequently, listing a thousand examples would be comparable to taking a cup of water from the Atlantic Ocean.

  • No political party seeks competition. However, the Republican Party certainly invites freedom of thought and expression. Despite claims by the Democrat Party, the Republican Party does not look at society through a racial lens. To the Republican Party, everyone is to be treaty equally. Thus, no particular race, minority or otherwise, should be given a greater or lesser advantage. To the Republican Party, race should be given no consideration where government decision-making is concerned.

  • It is the Republican Party that seeks to lessen the burden of laws on society. Indeed, it is the burdensome weight of the Democrat government in blue states that has caused so many to move to Republican-led states over the past two decades.

  • The Republican Party not only does not seek to control business in America, but it is the party who seeks the growth of business through deregulation.

  • Republicans complain about the left-leaning mass media in America and often speak out in favor of more evenhanded media coverage. Freedom of expression offers every individual the right to complain. Still, the Republican Party does not use government resources to force the silencing of opposing voices.

  • The Republican Party seeks to treat women fairly and equally in society. Some may disagree with that statement, but history shows this is the case. For instance, where women’s suffrage is concerned, it was Republicans who were the driving force behind the 19th Amendment providing women the right to vote in America. In the U.S. Senate, 82% of Republicans voted in favor of the amendment while only 41% of Democrats favored the amendment. In the House of Representatives, 67% of the yes votes came from Republicans.

  • In America, it is the Republican Party that has supported free religious expression.

  • Where elections are concerned, Republicans consistently seek to firm up election integrity.

In truth, the steady drumbeat of Democrats accusing the Republican Party of Fascism over the past sixty years has become a rather hollow rant. After all, if everything and everyone is depicted as being fascist, then the term begins to lose its efficacy. It becomes meaningless. In hindsight, the presidencies of Reagan, Bush, and other administrations were completely devoid of any signs of autocracy. Indeed, it was Reagan who ultimately brought the Soviet Union (a totalitarian regime) to its knees. Neither does Donald Trump’s administration appear to be absolutist in any sense of the word. While many may disagree with Trump politically, which is their right, the fact that people can freely and openly form protests against his administration demonstrates a lack of anything resembling authoritarianism. A dictator would simply shut down such protests.

This article could be ten times longer, but then it would be a book. The point here is that the Republican Party is not the political party that most resembles a totalitarian form of government – particularly fascism. It was Republicans, after all, who championed the civil rights reformations of the 1960’s and, had it been left to the Democrats, women still might not be able to vote. Democrats vehemently fought these changes.

There was a time when socialists and fascists were sworn enemies. However, of late the two appear to have developed a fondness for one another. For instance, look at the race for the U.S. Senate in the state of Maine. There we find a candidate on the Democrat side of the ticket – Graham Platner – who had a Nazi symbol tattooed on his chest. When it was brought to the public’s attention, he evidently sought to have the image altered, but the message was already out there. This, coupled with his previous political online posts, brings into question his commitment to a government designed to be a republic – a government of the people. While Platner now claims to decry Fascism one does not accidently allow a Nazi tattoo to be carved into his body. Such a tattoo generally represents deep ideological conviction.

One would think that someone wearing a Nazi symbol on his chest would blend in better with the Republican Party given the rants of the Democrat Party over the last several decades. However, not only is Graham Platner running as a Democrat, but he has been fully embraced by those in the Democrat Party who have so boldly attached the label of fascist to the Republican Party. This includes Bernie Sander, who is a self-proclaimed socialist. Interestingly, Platner has also received backing from the likes of Democrat Chuck Schumer (Senate Minority Leader), Democrat Senator Angus King of Maine, The Democrat National Committee, The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, and a host of other Democrat leaders.

Make no mistake - like Fascism, Socialism is a totalitarian ideology. It is surprising, then, that over the past couple of decades, many Democrats have begun to openly embrace their Socialist views, hoping to force their ideology upon U.S. society. In campaign after campaign, Democrats have daringly laid bare the controlling nature of their party (as in the example of backyard barbeques) and their dictatorial intentions. In all honesty, it does beg the question: Which U.S. political party most closely resembles those totalitarian regimes from the 20th century?

  • It was the Republican Party that sought to free slaves in the mid 1800’s. Democrats sought desperately to keep the black community under the thumb of slavery’s cruelty.

  • It was Abraham Lincoln, a Republican president, who authored and issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863 with the goal of freeing the slaves.

  • In 1865, with the end of the Civil War, it was primarily members of the Democrat Party who formed the Ku Klux Klan (KKK). These men loathed the black community, believing blacks were an inferior race who belonged to those whites who had bought them and brought them from Africa. It was Republicans who fought to eliminate the KKK.

  • Jim Crow laws, named facetiously after a black minstrel show character, were developed by southern states after the Civil War in an effort to limit the rights and privileges of citizenship among the black community – particularly where former slaves were concerned. Embedded with what were known as Black Codes, these laws sought to limit where former slaves could work and how much compensation they could receive.

  • It was 1966 before Jim Crow laws were finally eliminated. Thus, many of these laws, to a large degree, hung around for roughly 100 years.

  • The Civil Rights Act was passed in 1964 and signed by President Johnson at the time. However, what many do not know is that the Civil Rights Act was filibustered by two Democrat Senators – Strom Thurmond and Richard Russell, Jr. Thurmond was a Democrat at the time of the filibuster, but switched to the Republican Party shortly thereafter.

  • A much higher percentage of Republicans voted in favor of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. At the time, the House of Representatives consisted of 248 Democrats and 172 Republicans. When it came time to vote on the Civil Rights Act, 152 Democrats and 138 Republicans voted in favor. In other words, 60% of Democrats and 80% of Republicans voted in favor of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 in the House of Representatives. Where the Senate was concerned, 46 Democrats and 27 Republicans voted to pass the Civil Rights Act. This represents 75% of Democrats and 69% of Republicans in the Senate. All of this occurred after a 57-day filibuster by two Democrat Senators seeking to block the legislation. Overall, 78% of Republicans voted in favor of the act while only 64% of Democrats voted in favor between the two chambers. In other words, it was Republicans who offered the stronger vote to pass the Civil Rights Act of 1964 despite the fact that they held fewer seats in the two houses.

Of course, comparing Republicans to Nazis/Fascists or comparing Trump to Hitler is not only outlandish, it is completely erroneous. Nothing about the Republican Party even comes close to resembling the evil regime of the 1930’s and 40’s. Those who make the claim either know nothing about the Republican Party or they know nothing about the Nazi regime or both. Politicians who generally do understand the character of Fascism and continue to make the claim are simply being disingenuous.

At the time of the Constitutional Convention in 1787, political parties did not exist in America. However, it can be said unequivocally that it was the more conservative representatives at the convention who sought desperately to limit the size and scope of the federal government. Patrick Henry, a famous delegate from Virginia, refused to attend the convention, insisting that the new constitution that would come out of the convention would give far too much power to the central government. While Thomas Jefferson was in England at the time and, therefore, could not attend the convention, he and men like Samuel Adams, George Mason, George Clinton, and others fought valiantly to limit the scope of the government in the document. This group later formed the Anti-Federalists – the party that would eventually develop into the Republican Party in the 1850’s.

Those who cheer when Republicans are called fascists are generally unaware of the history of the two parties. In fact, it is fair to say that they are completely ignorant about the history of our nation and oblivious to the character and ideology of fascism. Consider the following facts:

  • In the Democrat Party, every issue is seen through the eyes of race. Indeed, most accusations against the Republican Party tend to be race-based. However, while there may be traces of racism in America, it is hardly rampant and the Republican Party is not the source. In fact, the Southern Poverty Law Center – a liberal organization with close ties to the Democrat Party – purportedly exists to fight racism in America. However, it evidently became hard for the organization to raise money to fight racism since it largely does not exist. Consequently, it appears that the firm was forced to provide financial support to the activities of groups like to KKK to foment pseudo racism in America in order to bolster fundraising. A recent indictment was handed down depicting their clandestine activity.

While the Democrat Party claims to genuinely represent the minority (non-white) community in America, the only issue they seem to care about where minorities are concerned is their right to vote. For this reason, Democrats show up every two years (every election) to plead for the votes of minority groups. However, that is not meant to benefit the minorities, but to benefit the Democrat Party. For those who claim that Democrats have done anything substantive for the minority community, examples simply do not exist. Primarily, the Democrat Party has fought for voting rights for minorities (and illegals). However, that effort is only meant to bolster the Democrat Party. It has arguably done nothing to improve the lives of the minority groups who go to the polls to vote for Democrats.

  • It is the Democrat Party who believes the government should be intimately involved in the lives of the citizenry, and involvement really means Democrats believe the government should control the lives of the citizenry. This has been demonstrated time and again across the country. Over the past two decades, individuals and families have been migrating away from Democrat-led states and cities specifically due to burdensome laws and extremely high taxes. In fact, a current mayoral candidate for Los Angeles has gone so far as to insist that the city should ban backyard barbeques. That is a perfect example of intrusive (authoritarian) governance.

  • Regulatory burdens on businesses are substantial in Democrat-led territories. Consequently, like individuals and families, large businesses have been relocating to states like Texas and Florida where businesses are free to do business without burdensome government regulations. They are leaving states like New Jersey, New York, and California that offer them no breathing room.

  • Just as the Republican Party complains about a highly left-leaning media in America, Democrats complain about conservative voices. However, it is the Democrat Party that used the weight of the federal government to pressure sources like Facebook, Twitter, Google, and others to silence opposition voices.

  • For a party that claims to be the supporter and protector of women, does it not seem strange that it is the Democrat Party that has placed women in the precarious position of competing against men in sports specifically designed for female competition? It is a bit curious and represents a degree of hypocrisy for a party who claims to care the most about women's rights.

  • Over the decades, Democrats have consistently aspired to remove all religious teaching from the public sector. Additionally, during the Covid-19 outbreak in 2020, Democrat-led state governments sought to close churches while freely allowing large gatherings of protestors representing liberal political views the freedom to protest publicly, ignoring regulations that were purportedly intended to offer a measure of public safety.

  • The Democrat Party has been involved in more than its share of fraudulent election activity. However, the biggest tell is the party’s refusal to support election integrity regulations ensuring that only U.S. citizens would be able to vote in U.S. elections.

All of this has been written to set the record straight when it comes to understanding the political positions of the two major political parties in the U.S. Still, it is equally important to have a grasp of what fascism actually looks like before tossing the word around too freely. Below is a list of ideological characteristics of a fascist regime.

The Democrat Party

  • A fascist regime is totalitarian in it governance. It is always geared toward one-party rule. There is no room for contrary political voices in a fascist government.

  • Racism is a defining characteristic of fascism. Indeed, it could be said that this is a primary trait of fascism. Fascists see pretty much everything through the eyes of race, although other portions of fascism are always present.

  • A fascist government always seeks to reduce the rights of the citizenry. This is done through excessive and intrusive laws as well as an expansion of government.

  • Fascism seeks control of the business sector of society – particularly the manufacturing sector. This may be done through aggressive regulations, but it is often the goal of a fascist regime to take ownership of the manufacturing portion of society.

  • In fascism, the government seeks to control mass media. In addition, free speech tends to be limited in a fascist society.

  • A fascist society is dominated by men and is inherently sexist. Women are always considered second-class citizens. This is generally demonstrated through actions rather than words. Fascists will claim equality for women, but their actions generally do not reflect their words.

  • Government and religion are often intertwined in a fascist society. If not intertwined, then government tends to place as many restrictions as possible on religious activity.

  • Elections in a fascist regime tend to be wrought with fraudulent activity.

Fascism is displayed in other ways as well, but these are some of the highly noticeable characteristics evident in a fascist government. This begs the question, then, concerning which political party in America openly demonstrates these kinds of traits. Consider the following.

Republican Party
